How do I once I have created a series of webpages in Word and saved them as
webpages, connect these pages to the internet as a website?

You need to chat to your internet or web service provider (or at least read
the material on his web site).
You may even find that the provider will have a tool for creating web
pages - that will make a lot tidier code than the mess that Word creates.

First off using Word to create web pages, is a bad idea.
Word was never intended for this use.

Here are some beginner links.

http://webmonkey.wired.com/webmonkey/kids/ (the simpliest understanding)

Navigation)

There are many free hosts, however they have disadvantages:

Your much better off in the long run to go with both and "established"
and
low-priced host.
Some pricing is $5 monthly or less. After your stranded with your first
bad
host (everybody MUST learn this lesson), you'll be more experienced and
careful.
