Word template problem

I have had a Word Document template on my computer for two years and it
started giving me problems today for no apparent reason.

In the document template is a line I have across the page as a page divider.
I originated the line by holding down the shift key then hitting line key on
the upper key of the keyboard to the right of the numbers.

Suddenly I can't delete that line from today's document as I occasionally
do. I have text on the page but I want to delete the line and can't. Is
there a way to do this?
