Word suddenly can't show pictures

I was converting a Word file to Pdf when it suddenly stopped, and since then
every single Word document in the PC has lost its images. I'm sure this has
a simple fix somewhere, but I don't see any mention of such a problem in
various FAQs.

I have a self-standing Word 2003 with WinXP-Sp2

I have never until now had any problem with the Pdf program, Docu-Desk.

I have never until now had any problem with the Pdf program,
Docu-Desk.

Go to Tools > Options > View and check the box for Drawings. Make sure the
box for Picture placeholders is NOT checked.

The change in the options and the PDF conversion may not really be related.
These options are stored in the registry, and if something goes wrong there
the values might be overwritten. This is relatively rare, but with hundreds
of millions of computers running Word, even a rare occurrence can happen.
