Word sub windows not appearing

I recently bought a new PC with winXP pro. I installed my copy of Office 2000
( a real licensed copy). Word works but within a document, if I select a
dropdown feature with a sub-menu (such as options), it doesn't appear. WHat I
see is the word tab on the taskbar flashes. When I click on the flashing tab,
the dropdown feature appears. On my previous system win2000 pro, this did not
happen. Likewise opening a password protected document, the same phenomenon
happens. The passowrd box doesn't appear, the task tab flashes. Clicking on
it the passowrd box opens for entry. Wierd. Email (e-mail address removed)
with any help. Thanks. I also have but sp1 and sp2 for the office 2000
installed in the winxp system.
