Word slow to close

Running XP HE SP2 w/ Office XP Standard. I don't use the Journal options.
WORD always requests a virus scan at startup. I have my Macro Security set at
Medium and have 2 Companies in Trusted Sites. Word takes 30-40 seconds to
open and close. I have done a "Detect & Repair with no apparent help. Can you
steer me to probable causes?

Hi, Russ. If you have Symantec/Norton AntiVirus, try disabling the Office
Plugin that comes with it. See http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=329820

Lot's of germain questions... Have had the "send error report" before and
after Norton Plug-in change. I don't see a monster blue dragon error box. I
just got it again opening this news group discussion. Can't seem to isolate -
that's why I did a "Detect & Repair". I reinstalled SP2 after the D&R. WOrd
is just miserably slow to open and worse to close. Can't figure it out. What
shall I look for n Tools>Options? Thanks for your concern.

any improvement.

If you can think of anything else, it will probably help. Keep getting "error
report - do you want to send". So I must have a conflict somewhere. Thanks

You started getting this error message after you disabled the Norton Office
Plugin, or when? What is the first part of the error message? What are you
trying to do (e.g., open a file, print a file, click on Tools | Options,
etc.) when this error occurs?
