Word shuts down automatically

I would like Word to stay open even when I have no active documents.
Presently, when I close the last document, and minimize Word, it shuts down.

When you close documents, use Ctrl+F4 instead of Alt+F4. Or, when you click
to close a document, don't use the big X in the top right corner; use the
little X below it. The top X (in theory) controls Word, while the lower X
controls just the displayed document. Behavior can also be different
depending on the setting of Tools - Options - View - Windows in Taskbar.
Checked, it makes each Word document look like a separate instance of Word.
