Win Word shut down problem

If I save a Word document to a floppy and try to close Word without closing
the document first, Word hangs up and won't close. Trying to end the
application with control-alt-delete doesn't work either. I can go to Start
and then shut down, but even this approach takes a lnog time before my
computer actualy shuts down and all I want to do is close Word, not shut
down the entire computer.
If I close the document first, then I can close Word without any difficulty.

Never ever read from, write to, or print from floppy with Word. These are
the most certain methods of ensuring document corruption.

Copy to the hard disc and work on the document from there.

This is equally relevant to other removable media such as CDRW.
