Word Search & Replace doesn't "see" certain fonts

Hi,

I am editing documents whose original authors are mainly Asian. I receive documents in English but most of them have this pesky font called SimSun or SimHei. I have tried to get rid of it two ways:

1) Select All then set the font to TNR

2) Use Search and Replace to replace SimSun with TNR

In both cases, Word misses quite a few instances of SimSun, which means I must hunt for it manually. It's a huge time waster and I hope someone here can help me find a way around it.
