Word quotation marks change to accented letters

Typing a single or double quote mark returns strange results. Depending on
the letter following, it may give an accent on the letter instead of quotes.
I am not using CTRL before the quote.
 
You have inadvertently enabled an international keyboard layout. Check the
Input Locales setting of Control Panel | Regional Options.

Thanks. The tab Languages, Details, Language was set to US International.
Changing it to just US fixed it. Thanks for your help.
 
Thanks also from me. Is it a shortcut key that "inadvertently" changed these
language settings? Just curious...
