Personally I use Microsoft Word. However, if you are on a budget Lotus
WordPro and Wordperfect are pretty good for a lot less money.

Notepad is not a Word Processor. Wordpad, which is a freebie word
processor with XP is only slightly more functional. Neither are author's
tools.

As others say, Microsoft Word is the best. I've been using it since it
was DOS program in the mid-1980's and will continue to do so for a long
time to come, I would guess. It's not cheap. Buy it on it's own or as
part of Office (the more conventional approach).

Since they are free and highly capable, give OpenOffice and Abiword a
try. OpenOffice is suite of programs like Office. Abiword is best
described as a clone of Word. Download from www.openoffice.org and
www.abisource.org.

Notepad is a text editor, not a word processor.

If you want a word processor, there are many choices on the
market. Microsoft Word is the most popular, but I personally
prefer Corel WordPerfect. Other choices include the inexpensive
StartOffice and the freeware OpenOffice.
