Word Problem PLz Help

For some reason, my Microsoft Word program seemed to go weird...

Usually, when I highlight some text in Microsoft Word, I could replace it
with some diff text just by typing. Also, when I pressed Backspace, it would
delete.

Now, it doesn't seem to do that...
It's driving me nuts! I always highlight something then type some other
stuff in. It just appears behind the highlighted stuff. The highlighted
things dont go away until I push Delete. (you kno, the one under Insert and
left of End.)

Plz help me, and try not to make it too technical, I'm only 13 ^^

In MS Word, Tools menu - Options menu item - Edit tab- Typing Replaces Selection checkbox
