Word picture inserting issue resulting in an <sp>

Whenever I insert a picture into Word the text <sp> appears by the anchor
point. It also prints with the document and I cannot stop it from
displaying. This is happening in word 2003. Any suggestions pls? Thanks

This one is wierd. I have seen a few reports of <sp> appearing in documents
but never a cause or a solution. The actual character, under the covers as
it were, is acsii 8, a backspace, which is used in documents as a
placeholder for a graphic.

I would be interested to see a document containing this, if you could send
me one. Other than that I don't know why it happens and if it happens all
the time, I would suspect some sort of corruption; the first thing I would
try would be a repair of the Word installation (Help > Detect and Repair)

It seems to be specific to the user’s profile. The same document appears fine
on another computer. In fact if someone else logs into the same computer the
document appears to be fine. And when the effected user logs in then the <sp>
tag appears on the document. Also its not specific to one word document but
any ie old or new under the effected user's profile. I am guessing some kind
of profile corruption so I am trying to avoid profile re-creation but so far
thats the only possible solution. Any alternate suggestions? Thx

That is interesting. Thank you.

I would have to agree that the user's profile is where the problem is in
this case. My first guess is that it's somewhere in the Word Data registry
key (HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\(version)\Word\Data) - try renaming the
Settings value, Word will create a fresh one.
