Word Paste Snafu

Kevin

Hi,

Using XP with Office 2000. Suddenly my Paste command is seemingly
disabled -- but only in Word.

If I copy something in NotePad and paste in NotePad, the Ctrl-V or edit menu
option work. But if I copy something from NotePad (or anything else) and try
to paste it in Word -- I can't do it.

If I use the Paste Special command, I can paste things into Word -- but not
using just the Paste command.

If I copy something from within the Word doc, I can paste. But I can paste
nothing from outside Word back into it.

Any ideas on what I may have disabled and how to get it back.

thanks

First step in troubleshooting Word: Close Word. Find and rename your
normal.dot file. There's lots more to it than that if you have normal.dot
customized. See the troubleshooting steps at
www.theofficeexperts.com/word.htm, as well as the writeup on normal.dot.

Is Word already running when you copy the text from Notebook? Is Word part
of the Works Suite? If so, uninstall the Word Add-in through the Control
Panel, Add/Remove Programs.

If not, then there are several add-ins that are incompatible with the Office
Clipboard. Have you installed any utility or application recently?

The "first step" in troubleshooting is to rename Normal? That seems
like very drastic advice. The overwhelming majority of problems in Word
are caused by factors that have nothing to do with any problem in
Normal.
