Word opens slow

I have several users that use Word 97 with WIN XP and store their documents
on our network. Recently, when they tried opening documents, the documents
are taking forever to open. Other documents open just fine. The documents
are of random size and complexity. Some are just one simple paragraph,
others are plain letters, and others are multi-page documents with
multi-formatting. I found an article regarding printers and fonts, but they
have not changed printers nor loaded any new fonts to their system. When I
copy and paste the document into a new document and save it with the same
name, it opens fine. Although this may be a work-around solution, I can't
figure out what caused the problem. Nor do we have the resources to have
someone copy, paste and rename every document. We have current Norton
Anti-virus definitions and have run the scan on each system without any
viruses identified. Also ran Spanware. Any ideas?

Hi =?Utf-8?B?TWFyaWFubg==?=,

The one thing that comes to my mind, although I don't usually associate this
problem with Word 97, is that the documents are linked to templates that no
longer exist in the original location. Take a look in Tools/Template and Addins
at the template name and path and check whether it's still present in that
path?
