Word launches with text

[stumped in Maine]

Every time I launch Word, the same text reappears. I deleted the file that
had the text at one time, and emptied the trash, yet the same text that was
in the file shows up each time I launch Word.

How can I eliminate the text so that when I launch Word, the new document is
blank?
