Word is not overwriting selections

B

Bryan Feeney

I'm using MS Office 2003. Somehow, something has turned itself on on word.
When I select some text, and type on the keyboard, instead of deleting the
text and replacing it with what I type, the text is deselected, and what I
type appears before the selected text.

Also my cursor is half the normal height.

What's caused this, and how can I turn it off? In case anyone is wondering,
it has nothing to do with the Insert key, I've already tried turning it off
and on.

Hi Bryan,

Take a look under Tools/Options/Edit and make sure "Typing replaces
selection" is turned on.

Regarding the height of your cursor, I've encountered this too and
resolved it by resetting my Display Appearance for Windows.

Bryan,
Don't know about the halfsized cursor. But have you checked in Tools -
Options - Edit tab - if there is a check next to the top left checkbox which
should read something like overwrite selection or something similar.
