Word is locked

Hey, I know this has been asked before but my version is slightly different.
My word is locked even though it is the home and student version that I have
bought, installed and activated. Does anybody know what I could do to unlock
it?
Ive got a university asignment I cant do because of this

Exit Word. In Windows, search for and rename the normal.dot (normal.dotm if
you are using Word 2007) file (remember to search hidden files and folders).
When you restart Word, does it now work correctly?
