Word has Stopped Working: still needing help

I open a document in Word and I can't select anything, type anything or
access most functions. This happens with any docx file. The fix I was given
was for 2000. I've replied twice, but haven't heard back.

I am working with VISTA and Word 2007. Are there fixes that work with these
programs? I am totally Desparate here!!!

When I exit Word, a message comes up saying there is something wrong with
Word (figured that), but then nothing happens - the message says that windows
will fix it but the program just closes.

Any help related to Word 2007 and Vista would be much, much appreciated.
 
Does Word work correctly if you start it in safe mode? Press the Ctrl key as
you start Word, then click Yes to starting in Safe Mode.
