I've just received some documents to download from England( does that make a
difference?). When I try to download a message pops up stating Can not load
word for windows 6.0. I assumed I have to download word 6.0, but can't find
it. I apologize for my stupidity. Any help would be appreciated.

I have MS works wordprocessor. Does that count? LOL Sorry again for the lack
of neurons. This is definetly not my field.

Word is a Microsoft word processing program. It is not free.
They do have a viewer as pointed out before.
Usually you can view .doc files with Wordpad which is included with XP.

I can get to the point in wordpad tobring the file name up but the only
option after that is to open and I get the same message. Should I download
onto a disc and try a comp. with Word? Getting frustrated. They are booking
forms for a cottage. Thanks for your troubles anyway.

Thank you Mary Sauer and NotMe. I downloaded Word viewer and it did the
trick. All is well and the world continues to turn

jjflash and candy:

How interesting... the answer all laid out in the knowledge
base...UNFORTUNATELY, it doen't work. Secondly, it occurs even without any
Quicken installation of any sort whatsoever. I don't happen to be enamored of
opening the whole the bloatware of Office to read/modify/write, a quick note,
and have made do quite well with wordpad, aka write. until XP. Somehow I
must've missed the note in the docs relateing to upgrading to xp from 9X,
despite exhaustive reading of same, could it be, mayhaps, BECAUSE IT WAS
NEVER MENTIONED

Seems to me just another way of getting folks to have to upgrade (READ:
buy/obtain/whatever... more software from MS) to "fix" a problem which MS, in
it's infinite indifference, has caused.

I shouldn't have to "fix" microsoft screwups, and I get really tired of
being a windows "Beta" tester, five years after the "final" version is
released.

A security measure yet...It is to laugh.

A pox on MS, and it's apologists

jflash:

if you want to fix it get a copy of wordpad.exe (just the one exe file) off
an older machine , like millennium. version "5.00.1691.1" dated "Thursday,
June 08, 2000, 5:00:00 PM" install it in a folder of your own, make a
shortcut and use THAT for .doc files. It STILL works on docs, and is a
WORKING fix unlike the OFFICIAL one touted here. I had the same problem you
did with NO installation of Quicken in any form, and without SP2. By the by,
its not you who are stupid, its the "supercoders" at Microsoft..

A pox on microsoft.
