Word exiting on closing a document

Can ANYONE tell me how to keep Word from closing entirely when a document is
closed? This is driivng me crazy. Thank you.
 
Dee:

Don't click on the "X" in the upper right hand corner to close your
document. Instead, click on file and close or file and save as.
Alternatively, use Ctrl + F4 to close your document. I hope this is helpful
to you.
