word documents open in text edit

Every word document that I create, when i double click on it it only opens in text edit. Why. What do i do to correct this? If i use command-O I can get the document open what gives
 
I figured it out. I went into "info" and opened the "open with" I selected Microsoft word Default and then clicked "change all" It works fine now
