Word documents always open read-only

One user on our network experiences the following: every document opens
read-only, even if thios is not set in the document's properties.

Often the document will open normally and then during editing the document
it becomes read-only requiring a "file save-as" to save any new work.

What could be causing this peculiar behaviour?

Copy the file locally, edit it, copy it back. Ideally use a version
control system to manage this.

G'day Rdegan <[email protected]>,

Word uses THREE copies of your file.

1. The original.

2. A tmp file to store your edits

3. An autorecover file

If you have your templates networked as well, you get another three
for opening the template that is attached to the document.

Thus Word is overly sensitive to network collisions whilst working on
networked files.
