word document won't convert

By a process of elimination, I've determined that some symbols are
making adobe fail when converting a Word document. I found another
post in this or another group saying that adobe will crash if a font
is not authorized for pdf conversion. I don't want to take the symbol
out, because I am converting a document created by another entity, and
it is used in other documents in my file. Anyone have any pointers on
this?
