word document problem

Recently got new hard drive. Copied old files to disk.
Copied disk to new drive. When opening word documents,
pop-up message says: "...is being used by home user. Do
you want to make a copy?" How do we fix this, PLEASE!!!

Thought I read that when files read in from CD they are
'R ONLY'. Ck a few (in Prop of file) on ur HD then we
can correct it.
