word docs try to open with excel?

Would anyone know my word docs try to open with excel? They still show the
"word" symbol in the folder but have to use "open with" rather than simply
clicking on? Any help would be appreciated.

It sounds like your file associations are mixed up. I believe entering
"winword /r" (without the quotes) in Start > Run should cure it.
