I have a user that is opening word 2003 documents from their user directory
on the network. Randomly the documents will open as read-only. No one else
has access to these documents so why would they open as read-only.

I don't think so, they user is able to open the document one time fine then
they next time it will open as read-only. I have looked for tmp files or ~
files and have not found any. I have had him log onto another computer and
the same thing will happen. He will start opening documents from explorer and
it may be the fith document or it may be the tenth. I can not find a common
factor.

Is the owner file (~$lename.doc) being deleted when he closes the document?
