Word docs in email from a colleague lose their styles

He's on a Mac, I'm on a PC, but I don't have this problem with other
coworkers. Not sure how to fix it: all the Word styles are gone and
everything is styled "normal."
 
It sounds like the "Recover Text from Any File" file type has been selected
in the File | Open dialog box. In the dialog box, make sure to choose "Word
Document" instead.
