i'm using vista. word docs can be opened when word is already open, but
cannot be opened through windows explorer. get the error message 'microsoft
office word has stopped working - a problem caused the program to stop
working correctly.'

also, when in word, i can no longer use mouse keys, i can only use the
keyboard.

this has got to be a known problem - i just can't find a solution to it!!!

please help!!!

Follow the instructions at
http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/MissingMenusEtc.htm under the heading
"Deleting and recreating the corrupt registry values". For Word 2007 (which is
_not_ the same thing as Vista, which is an operating system), the key to delete
is

\\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Data

it appears as if this works and has fixed my problem. i saw this as an
earlier resolution because some update occurred while word was open,
therefore corrupting the registry file, but since instructions for doing this
weren't clear for word 2007 (needing to delete the data file in version 12),
i couldn't get this to work. but THANK YOU so much for the help. i've been
struggling with this for a few days and finally got an answer. YEAH!!!!!
