word clipboard clear unexpectedly

Garyc

I'm running Windows 2000 and using Office/Word 2000.

My problem is this, when I open MS Word the clipboard is
being cleared out or emptied. When I put data into my
system clipboard I can paste into Excel or text editors
just fine, but when I open Word and perform a paste the
data isn't there. If Word is already open and I put data
into the clipboard I can paste just fine into Word. It
appears to be the opening of Word itself that is clearing
the clipboard.

Any thoughts as to how I can avoid this?

Did you install Office over Works Suite? If so, (a) the installation of Word
that comes with Works Suite was probably not overwritten, and (b) the
Microsoft Works Suite Add-in for Word is probably still installed. Dealing
with (a) is advisable just because it's better to have all the Office apps
from a single installation, but dealing with (b) is imperative: go to
Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the add-in. One of its
many nasty habits is clearing the Clipboard when you start Word.

If the Works Suite add-in is not the culprit, then the problem could well be
caused by another Word add-in, either a template in Word's Startup folder
(or the Office Startup folder) or a COM add-in (see
