Iam teaching Word 2003 and the students are to make a chart from a table.
When we highlight the table data we want and click charts old data excel
comes up and an old chart. I cannot get the new one to be the data

What exactly are you clicking on? When I select a table in Word 2003 and
click on the Insert Chart tool, I get precisely the result you seek.

I see two problems. First, you're not seeing the data from the table in your
chart. Second, you're seeing Excel. You should not be seeing Excel. Instead,
you should be seeing something that's similar to Excel, but it's really
Microsoft Graph's data entry sheet.

What happens if you start Word 2003 in safe mode (press Ctrl as Word is
staring, and click Yes to starting in safe mode)?
