Word auto recovery

auto recovery was set at default settings. There was an abnormal shut down
and Word did not reover the lost document. Followed all steps to manually
recover, nothing there. Can the document be recovered from somewhere?

Can I just check how you opened Word after the shutdown, did you click on the
Word application icon or the file listing for the document you were working
on?
If you clicked on the file the recovery tend not to occur; if you use the
application icon, the recovery will work.

See the following instructions I found elsewhere on this forum, they may help:
So long as you have not turned of your machine, as these files generally get
deleted upon shutdown.
Enable hidden files from folder options
Go to start - run
Type %appdata%
Go to Microsoft - Word
There you MIGHT find a file with .ASD extn
Try opening that file.
