In Windows 2000, when Word attachments are opened in Outlook 2000 and the
user does a "save" or "save as" , it saves iin the user's temp folder under
Documents and Setings instead of the default save folder location.

Is there a question here somewhere? Your posting seems nothing more than a
statement of fact.

What I meant to ask is: Is this normal performance, or is there a setting
somewhere to change this?

When you open an attachment in Outlook, the attachment must first be written
to disk in order to open it. The place Outlook uses to write this temporary
file is called the Outlook Secure Temp Folder and its location is controlled
by a registry setting. Since most programs, when you save an open file,
will save them to the folder in which they originally reside, naturally the
Save or Save As is going to show you that temporary folder. In order to
save attachments to the normal save folder (usually My Documents), don't
open them first. Right-click the attachment in the message and choose Save
As.
