Word as default email editor in Outlook 2003 - problem

Having uninstalled Office 2000, leaving Office 2003 only on the system,
Outlook 2003 says that MS Word is busy or doesn't exist to be used as default
email editor. But Word does exist on the system, and the Outlook email editor
doesn't display the full form for creating emails (only the To: line). What
has happened during the uninstalling process and how can I rectify it
(without reinstalling Office 2003)?

How can Word exist on the system if you've uninstalled Office? Moreover,
you can't have had both Office 2000 and Office 2003 on the machine, so how
could you uninstall Office 2000 and leave Office 2003?
