word and endnotes

Hi,
I typed a document in wordperfect it is a chapter for a book, and sent it to
one of my friends for him to check the doc for errors. He asked that it be
sent to him as an RTF file so that he can open the file in Word. I did that
and sent it to him. He did his corrections and sent it back to me and all my
end notes are way off. Some pages show the same numbers for the end notes
and they are not one after another like ( 1,2,3, ....etc instead it is like
instead of 32, 33, 34, it shows 333, 833 etc). This is really confusing and
I don't want to do the corrections again since that is a lot of work. Has
anyone faced the same problem and if anyone knows hoe to correct this. I
would be really grateful.

I tried opening the finalized document in word and still there are problems
in it too.

Oh I also used endnote application with the wordperfect but I do not think
that is the problem.

Thanks for any help in advance.

Best,
Harish Sathisan

Did you not keep a copy of your document? It is quite common for documents
to be corrupted when emailed, so it is not a good ides to send your only
copy.

If you do have the original, you are faced with either comparing the
original and edited versions and manually making changes to the original or
correct the edited copy. There's no magic formula to sort out the unwanted
changes. I recommend that if you need to do this regularly that you both use
the same Word Processor.

Wow. Thanks for the reply. But I never thought that the document could get
corrupted through E-Mail. This is the first time I have experienced this.
The problem is that the file that they sent back was in RTF and when opened
in word also has the end notes mixed up and all jumbled. Well this is a book
and to think that I will have to go through everything again around (500
Pages) is like really a big task. Well I think I have learnt a lesson. Ask
the other person to use the software that I use. :).

Thanks for you help Terry. I appreciate it.

You will also find that if you use a utility such as WinZip to compress your
files before sending, it also makes them much more robust against
corruptions as well as being smaller (quicker to send/receive).
