Word 97 & Office 2003

Hi:

My new desktop is running XP hone version with Office 2003
and my employer's laptop is runnung XP Professional
version with Word 97.

I had to upgrade my contact management software "ACT" to
version 6.0 because ACT 5.0 will not work with Office
2003. In order for me to "sync" the databases between the
laptop and the desktop, it will be necessary for me to
load Office 2003 on the laptop.

Problem: My employer IT person will not permit me to
upgrade Word 97 to Word 2003.

Question: Can I download Office 2003 on the laptop and
have BOTH Office 2003 and the older version of Office,
without causing conflicts between the two programs?

Hi Mary,

Well, you can't "download" Office 2003, but yes, you should
be able to install it in parallel with Office 97. With
reservations. A number of the "applets" (Equation Editor,
Graph, etc.) will be replaced by the newer versions, so you
wouldn't be able to share documents containing these if the
other person needs to edit such objects in them.
