Word 97 doc to Word 2003 docs

Tweety

Hi,

I've got a document with a macro in it. It is made in Word
97. I can open it in Word 2003, this goes fine. But when I
want to save the document then it grows three times the
size. It was 300 kb now it's more then 900 kb.
I've got the dutchversion so don't know how these options
are called. These option are marked:

- Save at background
- Taalkundige gegevens insluiten (dutch)
- Infolabels insluiten (dutch)

So my question is, how can I fix this size problem :p

Background save shouldn't make any difference. "Allow fast
saves" would be bad, but that should be off by default in
Word 2003.

"Infolabels" could be SmartTags, you could try turning that
off.

I have no idea what "Taalkundige gegevens" translates to, but
I'm guessing it might be the "language information". As I
recall, that's only relevant if you've been using speech
recognition, and it would increase document size
significantly. However...

The document may well have developed some problems, down in
the structures, and the increased file size could be the
result of Word trying to deal with this. You might try saving
the file as XML, close, then re-open and save again as a Word
document (to a different name, of course, so that you don't
lose the original). See if that reduces the file size
(without losing anything)?

Okay I've been trying those things you told me.
But they don't work.
The file size of the document became even bigger.
Very strange.
Anyone got a other answer?

The round-trip to XML got larger? Then the file must be in
quite bad shape.

Try copy/paste everything except the last paragraph mark
into a new document, created from a Normal.dot generated by
Word 2003 (IOW, not a Normal.dot you're brought forward
from Word 97).
