Word 97 as e-mail editor for Outook 2003

I just installed SBS2003 with the accompanying Outlook 2003 for a client
whose users all had Office 97. Now they want to know how they can use Word 97
as the e-mail editor. Outlook shows Word 2003 as a grayed-out option, but no
Word 97. Do I actually need Word 2003 to get to a platform that will allow
e-mail editing in Word with Outlook 2003?
