Word 2007

I have been using MS Word 2007 for several months. However, most of my
organization uses 2003. This hasn't been an issue until now. One document was
done in 2003 and is 238 pages. It has track changes on. However, when I try
to open the document, it gets to about page 158 and dies. I get a Not
Responding message. I have 2 GB of RAM so I don't think that is the issue.
Finally, someone saved as a 2007 document and it works fine. Do you have any
idea what the issue might be? I will have to save this as a 2003 document
when I finish so I'm worried that others might have an issue with it. Not
sure what is different that it won't open in 2007. Any ideas would be
appreciated.

Thanks.

Since saving in Word 2007 format fixed the issue, I'm guessing the document
was slightly corrupt. Can you save it back to Word 97-2003 format without
running into trouble again?

Yes, that works. It still doesn't tell me what 2007 didn't like about the
original 2003 document but at least I can work with it now.

Note that saving to a different file format and then back is standard
procedure when dealing with corruption (see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/CorruptDoc.htm).

I'd say that you usually cannot tell the nature of the corruption; the
exception is if the corruption is in a particular table in which case you
can divide the document and see which half gives an error message, and
continue dividing it until only only one table remains.
