Just in the last 2 days, when I try to OPEN a document in Microsoft Word 2007
I get the "Not Responding" notice and the program freezes. I can open a new
file and one of the previously listed files. But not a new one. And when I
tried printing, I get the same "Not Responding" notice and the program just
hangs in the off mode before I need to control/alt/delete it. Please help.
All of our garden club information is in the Microsoft Word. Was working
perfect 2 days ago.

Herb,

I took your advice and under start I tied winword.exe /a and my Microsoft
Word came up normal and open the files like it always did. So I think it's
what you said about the normal templates but I am unclear how to go
about fixing/changing that. Thanks for the prompt reply!

I looked under help and got the info on change normal template
When I did all that I actually had 2 files that said normal -- one
dated 7/14/07 when I think we got the computer and normal
dated 5/15/08 which is about when this problem arose.
I also have normal 2-102 files! What are all of those? The
help pages says if normal.dotm is renamed, damaged, or moved,
word automatically creates a new version the next time I start
word. Is that what I want to do? Delete the whole kit and koodle?

Thank you very very much!

After reading the Solving Crashing Problems, I deleted all the templates listed
except the first original one. I tried opening word after that. Same
problem.
I went back into templates and renamed the one remaining template --
normal.dotm, tried again and word opens up and when I go to open a file
it still freezes up and says "not responding." Help!

If Word opens correctly in Safe Mode and not in Standard mode, this is a
common indication that you have a problem normal template or add-in as Herb
suggested and nothing to do with the core program. Starting in safe mode
eliminates the user variables.

When you were reading the 'solving crashing problems', did you mean -
http://www.gmayor.com/what_to_do_when_word_crashes.htm linked from the page
Herb suggested? If so then have you removed all the temporary Word files?

The original linked page shows which template files to delete or rename and
which registry entry you should dfelete or rename.

In addition a corrupt or defective printer driver will cause starting
problems. Check that your printer is correctly instaleld and that you have
the lastest version of the driver for it.
