word 2007 email icon grayed out

I just purchased a new computer and installed office 2007 home and student.
I have Outlook Express and cant figure out why I cant send email directly
from word. I have checked in the IE->internet options->programs and set the
email option to outlook express as stated in some postes but no dice. Any
suggestions?

I looked at the link but this solution is for Outlook and does not mention
Express. Yes some of the registry information stated in the link is missing
but would the same entries correspond to Outlook Express as well as Outlook.
Can I not use Express?
