Word 2007 - Cover page on page 2

Anyway you can allow a cover page (building block) to go on page 2? We
always have a preceding letter.

Just insert a page break before the cover page and then type the letter.

Note that if you want to restart page numbering and/or change headers or
footers, you will have to insert a section break rather than a page break.

Complicating the issue somewhat, when you insert a Cover Page building block
in Word 2007, Word enables "Different first page" and uses the First Page
Header/Footer for some of the cover page elements, so a simple page break
would *not* work; a section break would be needed, and the first page of the
new Section 1 would repeat the First Page Header elements of Section 2, so
the sections would need to be unlinked (or, at the very least, "Different
first page" disabled for the new Section 1).

Thank you for clarifying this. (Obviously I didn't test it before I
replied.)

I guess that is a good reason not to like the cover page feature: it hides
the more complex aspects of Word from users.

I'm still reserving judgment on such building blocks, having little
experience with them (or 2007 generally), but I share your aversion. Of
course, I know how to do things "by hand."
