Unable to open word documents. Must open using word pad only?

Is Word installed on your computer? If so, can you open Word documents from
within Word? If so, and the documents are just opening in WordPad when you
double-click them in Windows Explorer/My Computer, see

I completly removed Office 2003 and reinstalled it but to no avail. I can not
open word documents from within WORD. I believe what happened is I was asked
to save the document I was working on to a new template and I said yes when
it should have been NO. I lost the normal.dot format and don't know how to
get it back.

I'm still no further ahead but it is likely the operator. I don't even know
where to look and see if I have a "normal.dot" file or template for word
documents?

Same thing, can only open word documents with word pad.
