Word 2003, Thumbnail view

B

Brian

Ok, i'm about to pull what's left of my hair out. Word is driving me
up a wall.

When I open most documents it brings them up in thumbnail view, which
in my opinion is no feature. But anyway, all I want to do is have word
open all documents in good ol' regular view (normal).

I have to do a lot of printing of documents that come my way, and it is
quite time consuming to have to switch to normal view first on each and
every single document i work with (I have to do it because word gets
quirky when you try to specify the page ranges you want to print if you
do so from thumbnail view). These documents can be pretty big so
sometimes it takes a while.

I've looked for a setting / option check off, in the helpfile, and
i've searched the net, i must not be searching properly.

Thanks in advance,

Brian

If you turn off Thumbnails and quit Word, does it still open the next time
with thumbnails displayed? Also, thumbnails may be viewed in any view
(Normal or Print Layout), but I have found that if I display thumbnails in
Normal view and then switch to Print Layout view, the thumbnails are
displayed in that view. If I turn them off in Print Layout and switch back
to Normal, they are still displayed in that view and have to be turned off
again. So be sure that they are turned off in every view before saving the
document (or quitting Word), and also note that a document is not saved in
any view unless you have made a change in the file itself; see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/General/SaveViewAndZoom.htm.
