Word 2003 repagination

We have noticed that on large documents, 40+ pages, Word constantly
repaginates causing the usier to spend a significant amount of time trying to
edit the document because it locks up, etc. We have suggested that they not
use the page layout view, but that hasn't resolved the issue. Will turning
off the background repagination help resolve this? I thought that it should
always be on, but I'm at my wit's end trying to fix this problem and I have a
lot of users screaming at me. Is there any solution to this problem? Thanks
for any assistance offered.

You cannot turn off repagination in Print Layout view - only normal view,
and normal view is the better environment for large documents.

I know. But the problem is that even when the user is using normal view, we
still have the repagination problem. I was talking about turning off the
background repagination while in normal view.

Certainly turn it off for normal view. The document will still need
repaginating before finalising, but it will speed things up a bit whilst
editing.
