Word 2003 Remove Hidden Data Tool increasing from original file si

Are there any details as to why the Remove Hidden Data file function in Word
2003 creates a copy that is larger in size than the original doc file? It
created a copy of an original file that added 5 more megs to make a 28 meg
Word 2003 document. I was hoping to kill 2 birds with one stone, to remove
tracked changes information from the doc and to reduce the size, but if it
removes data, why does it make a larger document? I have also found this
happen with docs under a meg in size in that the copy is marginally larger
than the orginal despite somehow having less data.

Also, regarding the 23 meg Word 2003 doc, any suggestions why a vanilla 78
page document with no graphics or embedded links, movies, soundfiles or
clipart gets to be 23 megs? There are no corrupted file warnings with this
doc, but it has been through various text and format revisions by various
reviewers on a shared drive location. Thanks,

Look Up "Versions" and Track Changes" in the Help, and make sure you follow
the instructions there to turn both OFF.

"Remove hidden data" removes only a few lines of data from a file. I think
you have Versions stuck "ON" for that document. If you have, each time you
save the document you save a new copy of the document into the file, instead
of replacing the copy that is already in the file with the changed version.

This will quickly create some really impressive file bloat. The other
likely culprit is Tracked Changes. If you have "Track changes while
editing" switched on but hidden, nothing ever gets deleted from the file.
