word 2003 question....what is this?

I have a friend who just got a new computer and put word 2003 on it. These L
shaped lines are there in the print preview screen, and I cannot for the life
of me get them to go away. They only appear when in the print layout view,
and I can get something similar to appear by turning on "text boundaries"
(tools-options-view- text boundaries) on another computer with word 2003.
