Word 2003 - Line numbering problems

I am attempting to add line numbers to a document. I get an error saying
that the margins are either too ig or too small. I've adjusted the margins
(making them smaller and larger) and still get the same error. Does anyone
know how to fix this problem?

Can you reproduce this issue in any document, or does it just happen with one
particular document?
