Word 2003 Keystroke for Applying a Style

In Word 2000, one could insert a style using an abbreviated stylename. E.G. EDBody1,ed1. We would type Ctrl Shift S, type ed1 and the style would be applied. In 2003, the abbreviated name is not being recognized and instead the longer descriptive name is. Word Processors are not going to be happy typing the long descriptive name. My thought is to rename our styles (e.g. ed1,EDBody1) but before I do all that work I was wondering if there was something I'm missing, or did Microsoft just do away with the abbreviated name feature. Can't seem to find an info on this

E.G. EDBody1,ed1. We would type Ctrl Shift S, type ed1 and the style would
be applied. In 2003, the abbreviated name is not being recognized and
instead the longer descriptive name is. Word Processors are not going to
be happy typing the long descriptive name. My thought is to rename our
styles (e.g. ed1,EDBody1) but before I do all that work I was wondering if
there was something I'm missing, or did Microsoft just do away with the
abbreviated name feature.I just did a quick test:

1. Created a new style named Test1.
2. Clicked back in the style box, typed a comma, then T1
3. Typed some text with new paras
4. Pressed Ctrl+Shift+S (focus moved to the style box)
5. Typed: T1
6. Pressed Enter

The correct style was applied. So the functionality is still there in Word
2003. If you
- rename Normal.dot
- start Word
- in the new document, do a simple test as above, but use your style names

Does it work? If it does, then the problem is likely damaged document
(templates).

Thanks, I did what you said and in some instances the
shortcut key does insert the style. To recreate my
problem, please try to create yet another style called
T1Indent,t15 then play with inserting the two. You should
see that 2003 is searching the long name where in 2000 it
didn't. I did find that after I type CTRL SH S if I
precede the abbreviated name with a comma e.g. ,t1 -- I
will get the correct style. Let me know if this is the
same for you. Thx.

No, it's not. If I type: Ctr+Shift+S, t15, ENTER the
T1Indent style is found and applied.

Are you testing this with files (templates/docs) created in Word
2000, or in Word 2003? If you rename Normal.dot then test this
in a new document do you still see the problem?
