Word 2003 Fill In Forms to be completed in Word

I have been trying for 2 days to create a simple fill-in form. I have created
the template and used the forms toolbar to insert text fields after my typed
titles and have protected the form before testing it. Whenever I try to fill
in the form for test use, I type in the first form field on a line (there are
several text form fields on the same line, but ample room for the text entry)
and every time the rest of the fields start moving to the right and
eventually down to the next line. I have specified unlimited number of
characters in all fields. I have even tried clicking the text form button on
the toolbar more than once to lengthen the field, but it seems it just adds a
separate field. Is there a command to lock these text fields stationary? Or
what am I not doing correctly?

Have you created this form in a table, or is it just paragraphs of text?
It's lots easier to create a form as a table (even if the lines are hidden),
but you need to make sure that the cells of the table are NOT set to
automatically resize to fit contents. (Table - Table Properties - Table -
Options)

See http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/TblsFldsFms/LinesInForms.htm for more
information.

I hope this helps!

You may want to create your form as a borderless table, with preferred
column width and exact row height.
