Word 2003 and HP Officejet TEXT SCANS:

J

Johann Backer

HP OFFICE JET scans to Wordpad and saves as a .rtf.

When it is opened in MS Office 2003 Pro (Word) and I click on text in a
sentence to make CHANGES: it presents a BOX with six (6) black squares and
will NOT make changes.

When I double click on any area within that "box" it brings up 'format
picture' with "text box' grayed out. IT IS A TEXT BOX--- NOT A PICTURE
BOX - Why dosen't Word recognize this???

It seems as though while you think it should be a text box, it isn't. Can
you edit in in WordPad? If not, check your scanner software settings.

No.

If not, check your scanner software
settings.

Wordpad, HP Photoview and I.R.I.S are all that are available.

It sounds as if you have scanned the text as a graphic rather than text. You
need to use your OCR software (that would be I.R.I.S.) to convert the
scanned picture into editable text.

You have scanned to a graphical image. You need to scan to OCR (optical
character reading) in order to be able to edit it. If you have nothing
better in your scanner software bundle, the Document Imaging option in
Microsoft Office Tools will provide a rudimentary OCR function. If you want
a serious OCR package then Finereader takes some beating.
